A Uganda safari is more about the country’s abundant wildlife, beautiful landscape, good weather, and hospitable people to mention but a few. This is a 7 Day Wildlife, Gorilla and Chimps safari that will expose us to most of these amazing things at wildlife destinations including Murchison falls national park, Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, Kibale national park and Bwindi Impenetrable national park. It will give us an opportunity to see a variety of wildlife including rhinos, chimpanzees, elephants, lions, leopards and antelopes among others.
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls national park Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise Day 3: Transfer to Kibale national park Day 4: Chimp tracking in Kibale forest Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Day 6: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi Day 7: Canoe ride and return to Kampala
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Murchison falls national park via Ziwa Rhino sanctuary After having your breakfast at the hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, you will be met by your safari guide, and after greeting, give you a briefing of the trip with more focus on this day’s programme. We set off and drive through Luweero triangle to Nakasongola where we’ll branch off to Ziwa rhino sanctuary. We shall go tracking rhinos with an armed ranger. There is however much more than just the rhinos to see here; the birds, antelopes and enjoying the tranquility of the environment. We thereafter head for lunch and proceed to Murchison falls national park, drive straight to our lodge for the overnight. Accommodation options: Chobe safari lodge, Sambiya River lodge, Red Chilli lodge. Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise We’ll have an early morning breakfast then go for a game drive around the northern part of Murchison falls national park. There is a variety of mammals we expect to encounter here; elephants, hippos, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, buffaloes, lions and leopards. The plains also host a number of bird species with the commonly spotted birds being the Abbysinain hornbill. Drive back to the lodge, have lunch and later on go for the boat cruise on the Nile. We’ll sail through schools of hippos, watch crocodiles on the banks and see different kinds of avian birds including pied kingfishers, malachite kingfishers and egrets among others, to the bottom of the Murchison falls. While here, we watch how beautifully the pours down after penetrating through the 7m gorge. After the launch trip, we drive to the top of the falls and thereafter return to the lodge. Day 3: Transfer to Kibale national park Have breakfast and check out of the lodge, then set off for Kibale national park in western Uganda. We drive via the Albertine escarpment, have an en-route lunch and arrive in Kibale in the evening. We’ll have our dinner and overnight at the lodge. Accommodation options: Kyaninga safari lodge, Chimpanzee Forest lodge. Day 4: Chimp tracking After an early breakfast, head to the park offices for briefing just before entering the forest to start tracking the chimps. The ranger guides are familiar with the trails and he/she will lead us of the search for the primates as they also share more information about other residents we may come across such as grey cheeked mangabeys, black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoests monkeys and forest birds. Kibale forest is one of the best places to track chimps and we are almost guaranteed to see them. After an hour with these amazing creatures, we shall drive back to the lodge, have lunch and relax. Optional activity- visiting Bigodi swamp or community at an extra cost Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Following an early breakfast at the lodge, we shall check out and set off to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. It is a journey of 7-9 hours depending on the trekking sector and we shall have an en-route lunch and check into our lodge in Bwindi in the evening. Accommodation options: Silverback lodge (luxury), Bakiga Lodge (Midrange) and Trekkers Tavern (Budget) Day 6: Mountain Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi Rise up early morning and have breakfast, pack your lunch and let us transfer to the park offices where we’ll be briefed about gorilla trekking and assigned the gorilla group to track. Gorillas rise up and right away start roaming around the forest for food. So we shall penetrate into the forest and look for the gorilla family assigned. Once we come across it, we shall have a precious one hour of watching the gorillas, how they go about their day, learn about their behavior and take photos. Then head back to the park offices, pick our certificates and drive to Lake Bunyonyi where we’ll have our dinner and overnight. Accommodation options: Arcadia Cottages Bunyonyi, Lake Bunyonyi Resort. Day 7: Canoe ride and return to Kampala This last day of our safari starts with idyllic views of the pretty Kigezi region; the stunning islands on Lake Bunyonyi, the Virunga volcanoes and terraced highlands. After breakfast, we go for a canoe ride on the lake and this experience of sailing on the deepest and beautiful lake in Uganda is thrilling. On return, we embark on the drive to Kampala with a stopover at the equator monument. Arrival in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening. END OF UGANDA SAFARI
